What's new at Center Grove

• Center Grove students might be off to a later start each Wednesday starting in January. The Center Grove School Board is considering a proposal to give teachers more time for training.

If the School Board approves the idea this month, each school would open 30 to 45 minutes late on Wednesdays in the second semester.

In exchange, the district would have three half-days this year instead of the usual six. Teachers now use those half-days to attend workshops and other training activities.

• West Grove Elementary School has a new principal this year. Debra Duncan, comes to West Grove from Frazee Elementary in Connersville, where she worked since 2000. She moved to Indiana in 1998 to become assistant principal of a Carmel Clay Schools elementary.

Sept. 5 -- Labor Day (no school).

Oct. 5 -- Professional development day for teachers (late arrival for students).

Oct. 18 -- Parent-teacher conferences (early release day).

Oct. 19 -- Parent-teacher conferences (early release day).

Oct. 20-21 -- Fall recess (no school).

Nov. 24-25 -- Thanksgiving break.

Dec. 21 -- Winter break begins at the end of the day.

Jan. 3 -- Teacher in-service day (no school).

Jan. 4 -- Staff development day (no school).

Jan. 5 -- School resumes.

Jan. 16 -- Martin Luther King Jr. Day (no school).

Feb. 8 -- Professional development day for teachers (late arrival for students).

Feb. 20 -- Presidents Day (no school).

March 22 -- Professional development day for teachers (late arrival for students).

March 30 -- Spring break begins at the end of the day.

April 10 -- School resumes.

April 28 -- No school for student and teachers.

May 25 -- Last day of school.

May 26 -- Records day (half day for teachers).

May 26 -- Commencement.
