Franklin Community Schools

Updated Aug. 8, 2005

Information is based on 2004-05 school year, except as noted.

Enrollment: 4,546.

Number of teachers: 254.

Average teacher salary: $44,461.

What's new

The district is looking at three options for its grade reconfiguration and building plan. The cost projections range from about $65 million to nearly $90 million.

The School Board is considering three plans to redistribute students among schools and construct facilities. One option would consolidate kindergarten classes at a central early learning center. The board will decide on one of the three plans in the coming months.

Construction is progressing on the new high school. Construction on a road to the school is expected to begin this month. The $103-million high school is under construction west of U.S. 31 and south of Branigin Road on Franklin's northside. It is expected to open in August 2007.

The district has hired an administrator and a new principal at Creekside Elementary. Jeff Mercer is the district's director of operation services. He spent eight years at Franklin High School, and since 2003 he has worked as Franklin College's director of community partnerships and continuing education. Sally Jones is the new principal of Creekside Elementary. She replaces Harriet Henry, who retired.
