What's new

• Franklin Township is opening the district's sixth elementary this year. Thompson Crossing will serve more than 550 students from kindergarten through fourth grade.


Thompson Crossing will house the district's gifted and talented program for elementary students, as well as a program in conjunction with RISE Learning Center geared at students with autism and other impairments.


• The Literacy Initiative is new this year. The program, funded through a Lilly Endowment grant, will help to ensure that all students achieve recommended reading levels.


The program will be administered by Venetia Faulkenberg, principal of Acton Elementary. Steve Peters will serve as Acton's associate principal for the interim period of two years.


• The district is expanding full day kindergarten from two schools to three this year. The alternative school program is being expanded to serve middle school as well as high school students.


2005-06 Calendar

Aug. 15 -- Professional staff meetings.

Aug. 16 -- Half day for all students.

Aug. 17 -- First full day for all students.

Oct. 14 -- End of first grading period.

Oct. 17 -- Parent-teacher conferences; half day for Grades K-6.

Oct. 18 -- Parent-teacher conferences; half day for Grades 1-6.

Oct. 19 -- Parent-teacher conferences; half day for Grades 1-6.

Oct. 20, 21 --Fall break, no school.

Nov. 24, 25 -- Thanksgiving break, no school.

Dec. 21 -- Full day for Grades K-8, end of first semester. Winter break begins for Grades K-8. Half- day for Grades 9-12.

Dec. 22 -- Half day for Grades 9-12, end of first semester. Winter break begins for Grades 9-12.

Jan. 3 -- School resumes.

Jan. 16 -- Martin Luther King Holiday, no school.

Feb. 20 -- Presidents Day, no school.

Feb. 21 -- No school (possible snow makeup day).

March 10 -- End of third grading period.

March 31 -- Spring break begins at the end of the day.

April 10 -- Classes resume.

May 25 -- Half day for students in Grades 9-12; last day of school for students in Grades K-8 (unless additional makeup days are needed).

May 26 -- Last day of school for students in Grades 9-12; half day.

Kitley Intermediate: 9:15 a.m.-4 p.m.

Half-day kindergarten A.M.: 8:30-11:10 a.m..

Half-day kindergarten P.M.: 12:35- to 3:15 p.m.
