Lawrence Township schools Updated Aug. 15, 2005
What's new Lawrence Township Schools will embark on several major planning initiatives this year while adjusting to changes caused by district budget cuts. Students at Lawrence Central and Lawrence North high schools will have a new schedule without the popular Student Resource Time that allowed all students and teachers to have a free period at the same time. Instead, study halls will be staggered throughout the day, enabling teachers to teach more class sections. Districtwide, 18 instructional assistant positions have been eliminated, and other instructional assistants will work fewer hours. Teachers and administrators will have less money available to pay for training, among other cuts. As the year progresses, district officials will solicit community feedback on redistricting the high schools for 2006?07. The district has determined it needs to reduce the number of students attending Lawrence North. More space will open at Lawrence Central that year because the Centralized Kindergarten site will leave. The district is working toward finishing four early childhood education centers that will house kindergarten and preschool classrooms. Fall Creek Valley Middle School will have a new principal this year, James Joiner, who is already on the job. 2005-06 school calendar Aug. 15 -- First day for staff.
