Ask any true "Sopranos" fan and they'll be able to tell you that the last episode of their favorite mob drama aired back on June 6, 2004. It's a drought that hasn't gotten any easier to bear as it approaches the one-year point.

LONDON -- Geraldine McEwan knows that Miss Marple's sensible shoes and cardigans have been filled by such redoubtable actresses as Margaret Rutherford, Angela Lansbury and Joan Hickson.

TV Q&A
Question: There was a miniseries some years past that I thought did an excellent job of portraying realistic life on the Ohio frontier. It starred Hal Holbrook and Elizabeth Montgomery. What's the title of the series? Is it on DVD?

Pamela Anderson is embarking on some career resuscitation. No, she's not taking a bunk in the "Surreal Life" house. Rather, she's mocking her own tabloid-inflated image in a Fox comedy.

Question: I have two questions: Is Poppy Montgomery from "Without a Trace" any relation to Elizabeth Montgomery of "Bewitched"? And on "Law & Order: SVU," they had Alex the D.A. come back for one episode. Why did she leave the show, and will she come back permanently?

NEW YORK -- Something must be wrong in the land of Muppets. First, PBS announced that "Sesame Street" would kick off its 36th season this week with a multiyear story arc about healthy habits. No problem there; childhood obesity rates are soaring. Then I learned of changes that turned my "Sesame Street" world upside-down.

NEW YORK -- Anna Nicole Smith has canceled a trip to Newfoundland to protest the killing of seals because of concerns about safety.

TV Q&A
Question: What can you tell me about the young actors in the movie "The Notebook" -- Ryan Gosling and Rachel McAdams? They are very good. I thought perhaps they got their start in soap operas. Can we look forward to seeing them in anything soon?

Commentary
Fran Drescher is like borscht. Some people can't get enough, and others gag. "Living With Fran," airing at 8:30 p.m. Fridays on WTTV , will reinforce this. Drescher's fans will enthusiastically welcome her back in the new WB series, even though it sets the smart bar lower than "The Nanny" did. The rest of America will wisely spare itself.

TV Q&A
Question: What happened to the Fox show "Jonny Zero"? Answer: "Jonny Zero" has been officially canceled. It was part of a Fox Friday-night lineup that garnered the lowest ratings since 1991.
