The weather was nice, the sidewalks were dry, and
it looked like spring on Feb. 12, 1952. So Mary Clare Leonard
(left) and Charlotte Remmetter, neighbors on North Euclid Avenue on
the Eastside, strapped on their roller skates and enjoyed the day.
Mary, now Mary Forner, is a widowed mother of three with five
grandchildren. She is a retired emergency room nurse living in
Michigan. Charlotte, now Charlotte Turner, of Indianapolis, is also
a widow and retired from Bank One. Turner has four children and six
grandchildren. The two former neighbors have kept in touch through
the years and still get together occasionally -- but not to
skate. (William Palmer / The News)
