Dental duties waited while Dr. Gilbert Quinn,
chairman of the swimming committee at Highland Golf and Country
Club, gave instructions from the diving board June 10, 1951. His
son Mickey was the pupil who was about to be dunked. Mickey, later
known as Michael, worked as a truck driver for Yellow Freight and
Indiana Farm Bureau. He retired with his wife, Betty, to Bradenton,
Fla. Dr. Quinn died in 1986. Highland was founded in 1903 where
part of Riverside Park was, according to the club's Web site
(www.highlandgcc.com). The club later moved to its current
location at 1050 W. 52nd St. (Herbert Rhodes / The Star 1951 file photo)
