Robert Scheer

Born in Manhattan, KS., in 1969, Robert lived in California from age 4 until 29, when he came to The Star. He received a biology degree from Humboldt State University in 1994, where he played jazz band trumpet and sax, and edited Toyon, the University's creative writing journal. He has worked as a photographer for several newspapers in Northern California, including a weekly in Santa Cruz, where he was working when he was hired by The Star. He has won numerous awards, including a first place award for picture story of the year from the Californa Newspaper Publisher's Association and a runner-up award for Indianapolis Star Staff Photographer of the Year.

An avid cyclist, Robert has studied and traveled in Mexico, and has done photo work with Indianašs Latino community. Currently, he is working on photo projects about the local HIV/AIDS community, and a series exploring diversity and stereotypes.
