Editor and vice president

Dennis R. Ryerson has been editor and vice president of The Indianapolis Star since March 2003.
He has more than three decades of journalism experience as a reporter, editorial writer, and editor at newspapers in Iowa, Washington state, Ohio, Colorado, Montana and California. As editor of The Des Moines Register, he moderated three nationally televised presidential debates and led a newsroom that earned national recognition for stories involving child abuse and freedom of information. Before becoming editor of The Star, Ryerson was vice president and editor of the opinion pages of the San Jose Mercury News in California.
An Iowa farm boy, Ryerson attended Iowa State University and the University of Northern Iowa. He is past president of the National Conference of Editorial Writers, and twice has served as a Pulitzer Prize juror.
He is married to Mary Milz, a broadcast journalist, and is the father of two grown children.

Dennis Ryerson
The Star ran a lovely, scenic photograph at the top of Page One last Thursday, a photograph that one reader said "borders on fraud" and another said is outright propaganda.
